Hello. For me the hardest thing to learn in English is "the prepositional verbs". Sometimes they are followed by more than two prepositions and it's hard to memorize. I master just a few of them, but I know I will never learn them all. Let's take "get" as an example, it can be combined with more than 26 prepositions. As a result we have more than 26 meanings. That's difficult for learners of English. -Look at that one: "He broke the law and got away with it", I'm joking here.
What about you native speakers, do you know them all?

If you asked a typical native English speaker about prepositional verbs, he/she wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about. Of course he/she knows how the use them, in fact he uses them hundreds of times each day, but he/she never thinks of them as a discrete element of grammar. That's the huge advantage that a native speaker (of any language) enjoys. He/she is so familiar with his language that it's all automatic.
Well, because I'm a beginner in English, I am firstly having difficulties remembering things, especially for the present tenses. I never know when to use present, present continuous, prersent perfect and present perfect continuous.
Secondly, a native English speakers don't say all of the letters in a word, whereas non-English speakers often do. They run their letters together so their words sound like "mush" compared to how they should sound in our "academic" English! So, I suppose I sound like a Spanish cow speaking Chinese when I'm speaking English! I'm certain you would find that quite funny...
For me it was the frustration of not being able to understand and being ashamed of making mistakes. Mistake. A big one. When I came to Australia back in 2007 I though my English was like level 3 and what a surprise when they put me into level 5! In two weeks I went to level 6! So I reckon my English wasn't that bad at all.
Many students are making the same mistake - they think their English isn't good enough so they don't speak much and sometimes they don't even try. If you can ride a bicycle maybe you remember many falls before you were able to fully control it. It's even better with English because if you make a mistake it doesn't hurt as much as when you fell off the bike ;)
Read, use it and don't be afraid - everobody makes mistakes. It's part of the learning process.
Pronounciation is the most difficult thing. It takes some students a really long time to learn how to co-ordinate their mouths. When you do learn proper pronounciation though it's so much easier to understand people.
Listening is the most difficult skill. This is because successful listening skills are acquired over time and with lots of practice. Listening involves many different skills including vocab, grammar, inferences and prediction just to name a few. It's frustrating for students because there are no rules as in grammar teaching. Speaking and writing also have very specific exercises that can lead to improved skills. This is not to say that there are not ways of improving listening skills, however they are difficult to quantify.
One of the largest inhibitors for students is often mental block. While listening, a student suddenly decides that he or she doesn't understand what is being said. At this point, many students just tune out or get caught up in an internal dialogue trying translate a specific word. Some students convince themselves that they are not able to understand spoken English well and create problems for themselves.
They key to improving your listening skills is to convince yourself that not understanding is OK. This is more of an attitude adjustment than anything else, and it is easier for some students to accept than others. You should be listening at a level that is higher than your own. It should be difficult. Another important point is that you need to listen to English as often as possible, but for short periods of time. The amount of time you spend listening is directly linked to how well you can understand spoken English.
I have difficulty to learning the writting and speaking because the preposition, modal verbs and frasl verb are very difficulty for writting emails, reports or letters. Speaking is very difficult for me too because th pronuciontion is very different than Portugues. Portugues haven't same sonds than English. English has differents sounds-for exemplo "th".

the hardest thing about studying english is the writing skill. most people says that the writing is the easiest thing about studying english , but i say the writing is not an easy thing, because in writing you have to do many things and u have to take care about many things .
to be good at writing u have to be good at many thinks like, vocab , spelling , grammar and panctuation. You have to learn all these things to be such a good writer. these thing u have to be good at them , also there are steps u have to do them befor and after the writng to make your writnig as good as a famous book writer.first u have to brain storm for some ideas and to make draft , moreover u have to do a plan for writing, therefore start your writng and u have to write as your plan finaly, after finish from the writing u have to read fast throwyour writing to check if there are some mistakes .
the way to improve your writing is to read alot of books and to write alot .
The most difficult thing to me of learning english is vocabulary. My mouth can't speak as fast as my mind and I'm not fluenty yet. To learn a new language is difficult for everbody in my opinion, because everthing is new: the sound, the vocabulary, the grammar, the culture and the accent. I have difficulties to keep my concentration and I'm trying to improve my english with something I like to do: read and watching video reports in digital tv.
I hope to write better next time! Good look for everbody! Keep going...
Speaking is the most difficult thing for me in English. Basically Korean, which is my native language, has a different word order from English. So when I speak in English it is hard to make a sentence quickly. Moreover Korean doesn't have a strong intonation, so someone, who talk with me, hard to understand my word. In addition I'm quiet shy, so when I communicate with someone, I lose my confidence.
From this week, I have gone to the library every day, and have rivewed what I learn that day to improve my English. Besides these days, I try to watch movies without subtitles, and read books which I borrow from the library or Langports.
I think that the most difficult thing about learning English for me is pronunciation. I have not learnt IPA very well when I started to learn and thus, I can not pronunciate completely as I see a new long word. That effects me to learn vocabularies by heart. Although I can remember how to spell a word, I still can not pronunciate it very well, sometimes.
In my opinion, listening is the most difficult thing for me.Although everyone learns the same language, different countrise have different accents,it bothers me.The first day,i came to Langports, my friend came from Korea,Japan and Brazil,we all have totally different accents.I though I should practice more listening so I started being active and talking with foreign students. It was very helpful to me.And besides listening, grammar is also my weakness. It has too many rules to understand, for example:tense forms, word order, relative pronouns...etc.I always comfuse the grammar,it is different from my native language,so i need to study harder. If I have good grammar,I will improve my writting skills.
In my case, I think the hardest thing about studying English is vocabulary. I can't memorize new vocabulary easily. Lots of time I forget the word after I have tried my best to memorize it for ten minutes. I have to say that if you don't have enough vocabulary, no matter how good your grammar is you can't understand what people are talking about. In addition, I can't match a word with its pronunciation. When I hear someone saying a word, I can't understand it if I don't spend two or three seconds to reflect.
Now I try to use a different way to remember a new word. When I memorize a word, I will link it with some pictures or special feelings in my mind. It feels like puting new words in different drawers or folders. It helps me to remember new words more easily. If you have the same problem, you can try it!
When I started learning English I felt that the speaking part of English was difficult because, at that time, I needed a long time to build sentences when I wanted to say something. I think if you do that like this, nobody wants to talk to you and you don’t want to talk to others in English either.
However, I could improve my speaking ability in these two ways.
The first was learning writing because while I learned writing I could learn grammar and I could remember some useful sentences as well. For sure, if you remember sentences as much as possible, you can speak more quickly in less time.
The second was listening to other people’s speech. But, in this case, it is very important that you have to try to keep remembering what they said in every situation.
Then, I knew a lot of grammar and vocabulary and then I could build a great deal of sentences which is fit for the every situation.
The next problem was listening. I think listening depends on someone’s pronunciation, accent, and the speed of speaking. When I came to Australia for the first time I couldn’t understand many things because of the lack of vocabulary and the speed of speaking.
However, I could improve my listening ability as well. I always tried to listen to music, to watch films, to study vocabulary, and to have lots of talking time. I think studying vocabulary was the most important for listening. There is a sentence. If you know much vocabulary, you can listen and understand most of things. I felt this every time when I watched films or TV shows, so I really agreed with the sentence.
Nowadays, I seriously think about my English ability and how much improved. Most of the part of English is really improved and I’m a little bit satisfied with that, but I definitely need to know much more vocabulary.
This is the important point that I can say to you. I think the most difficult thing is the vocabulary part of English. Basically, the vocabulary to study is changed by the purpose for examples communication, academic, business, management, research, development, and things like that. So, I think to study vocabulary is the most difficult.
Finally, I want to tell you one more thing. When you want to improve your English, you have to remember that the most important thing about learning English is studying all the parts of English at the same time. Additionally, if you wish to become an excellent English speaker, you have to keep having a very strong mind for learning and then if you try to speak and listen only in English, it can happen to you. Otherwise, anything can’t help you and you’re just going to keep staying there or to improve that very slowly.

What is the hardest thing to me about studying English?
The reason why using articles is very difficult for me is tjat the Korean language dosen`t have any articles.
For example,we always say just apple, house, car, and even ocean. However ,I have no idea whether any other countries use articles.
I am going to try to read a lot of books whenever I get the time to improve using articles.
A futher difficult thing about learning English is pronunciation. The reason why is that I have a serious short tongue and it is totally diffrent
type of pronunciation with the Korean language.
I am trying to watch the news,TV shows to get better at speaking English.

English is difficult!!
The most difficult thing is speaking for me. There are big differeces between English and Japanese.
Firstly, it is a order. English's orders are "subject + verb+ object",but Japanese's orders are "subject + object + verb ".
It looks not difficult. Only object and verb change order, however, this is huge problem. If I make the complex sentence
on my head, I always confused, and then I can't say anything.
Secondly, Japanese doesn't use the alphabet, so I'm not use to use it. That is to say , pronunciation is also very different.
I want to speak in English more, but I afraid of mistaikes which are grammar and pronunciation.
I always think about that, then I lost confidence.
Some countries use the alphabet and same orders.
I think that some countries people is little bit easier to speak in English than us,
but speaking is difficult for everybody, because there are many slangs in Australia.
I talk with my hostmother in order to improve my English.
She teach me vocabularies and slangs. When I can't explain to her very well, she always try to understand
what I say. I enjoy talking with her, I'm not afraid of mistakes at that time.
I believe that I continue to talk with her , I can improve my speaking skill.

I think the vocabulary part of English.
